Nowadays, double-cabin fire trucks seem to be nothing new. With the continuous updating of fire protection equipment in cities across the country, more cities have begun to choose to buy double-cabin fire trucks.

However, what we see in China are the finished products of double-cabin fire trucks. Few people can see the double-cabin chassis without superstructure. However, at the IAA Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show, Toni Maurer, MAN ’s chassis modification partner, showed a TGM18.340 double-head chassis specially designed for the Chinese market.

Compared with the finished product, the light display chassis can better let the audience appreciate the technical content of the double-cabin chassis. In fact, we already said when we introduced the EMPL double-cabin fire truck. The double-cabin fire truck is also divided into the main and auxiliary cabs. The main cab is on the side of the double row, with a total of 6 seats, while the co-pilot is on the side of the single row, with only 2 seats.

Although it is on Toni Maurer's booth, the logo of the bodywork factory has been clearly marked on the door, which is our familiar Austrian EMPL.

Because it is a double-cabin chassis, taillights are installed under the front and rear bumpers of both front and rear. This is also to remind rear vehicles not to be attracted to the obsession and rear-end collisions.

It can be seen from the model that this TGM18.340 double-cabin chassis belongs to a medium type chassis, allowing a total mass of 18 tons and a maximum output of 340 horsepower. It uses the most widely used 6.9-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine in the Chinese fire chassis market with a maximum torque of 1250 Nm.

It can be known from the vehicle's air filter installation position that the engine of this TGM18.340 double-cabin chassis is installed under the double-seat cab. This also confirms the statement that the double row seat is the main cab.

I don't know why, every time someone will ask, what will happen if both sides drive at the same time? Want to deliberately destroy a vehicle by such means? Sorry, the system is not allowed. When a double-cabin fire truck is running, only one side can operate normally. In this state, all operations on the other side are locked.

Due to the unique body form of the two-headed vehicle, MAN uses a 4-wheel drive chassis with MAN wheel-side reduction bridge structures on the front and rear, and the tires are Michelin 385/65 R22.5 ultra-wide tires. Three types of special steering systems: front-wheel steering mode, rear-wheel steering mode, and four-wheel steering mode. Four-wheel steering can minimize the turning radius and is suitable for flexible operations on narrow roads.

The obvious 3C mark on the windshield indicates that the chassis is customized for the Chinese market.

The space between the two cabins is the stage left to the superstructure. To install an aluminum box in such a compact place and implement multiple fire extinguishing functions is also inseparable from the manufacturer's own technical accumulation for many years.

The main purpose of the double-cabin fire truck is to extinguish a tunnel fire. Due to the narrow tunnel space, a double-cabin fire truck can be evacuated quickly from either side in the event of a serious accident.
